As we get older, it is only natural that things we once were able to do easily gradually start to become more challenging. That does not mean we cannot still do the things we enjoy and love. It just means we need to make some changes to how we do things so that we can still enjoy doing them. By making these changes, it also helps seniors improve their quality of life.

  1. Get an adjustable overbed table system. An overbed table is great to use for a variety of purposes. It can be used as a table top so you can relax in bed while watching the late show and work on crafts or a crossword puzzle, pay bills, charge your smartphone, and more. It even makes a great TV tray to eat meals and snacks.
  2. Take advantage of the internet. When we think of the internet, we might think it is just for the younger generation. That is not so. The internet is a wonderful tool that we can use to get online to connect with friends and family, do our shopping, and even buy groceries and have them delivered right to our doors.
  3. Take advantage of new technologies. Many recent technology advancements are perfect for seniors to use to make their life easier, such as smart thermostats, alarm systems, and voice assistants that can call for help. You can even link your voice assistant with your smartphone and other smart devices in your home.
  4. Don’t be afraid to ask others for help. There is nothing wrong with asking your kids, neighbors, or friends for help. Some tasks can simply become too difficult to do, so it is not worth risking accidents and injuries.
  5. Stay connected with friends and family. Part of a good quality of life is having friends and family you can talk to on a regular basis. You could also plan social gatherings like game nights or movie nights to catch up with friends you might not see as often as you would like.
  6. Create smaller goals. When setting goals of things you want to do, break them down into smaller tasks. This will make it easier to gradually work on one “big” goal and not get frustrated. As you reach your goals, remember to reward yourself in some manner.
  7. Exercise your body and your mind. Regular exercise and mental stimulation are great ways of improving your quality of life. With exercise, just do what you can, whether it is walking around the block, gardening, or doing chores around the house. To exercise your mind, play video games, put a puzzle together, or work on a crossword.

  1. Visit your primary care physician regularly. Your physician can help address concerns about your health and any limitations you are struggling with. It can also be a good idea to speak to a counselor if you are feeling sad or depressed.
  2. Get a furry friend to care for and keep you company. If you live on your own, getting a pet can be a wonderful thing for both you and your new furry friend.
